Let us make man in our image is difficult for us to comprehend. Each of us are so very different but yet so very much a like. We have the same base needs of human beings and are each flesh and blood with varying amounts of authority in and over our lives. How can each one of us be made in the image of God?
As the Lord explained it to me I will breifly but not as breif as HE explained it to me attempt to explain it to you. As a human being each of us have a spirit, a soul, and a physical (flesh) body. It seems that each person understands the above, even witches and satanist use this facet of being human to astral project (have their spirit/soul leave their physical body to travel about). The spirit being the substance of man as Jesus said on the cross, Father to you I commend my spirit ( Lu 23:46) then HE died. The spirit of a man is his substance or life force which without he can live in the flesh. Our physical bodies are obvisouly the Flesh: bones and muscle that allow us to function in this earthly enviroment. The soul of man is the will, intellect, and emotion; the communicator that is the communication link between the spirit and the body. A single human being is triprate: three but one.
God is spirit (Joh 4:24) and
The Son (Jesus) is flesh though HE is God ( 1Ti 3:16).
The Holy Ghost is the one who communicates to the Son (and now the sons of God) and displays the emotions and will and intellect of the Triune God. Jesus said, HE did the will of the Father; HE spoke what HE heard the Father say; and that HE, the Holy Ghost would teach us and bring all things to rememberance for the apostles. Further it is written that we should not grieve the Holy Spirit (Ghost). We clearly see that the Holy Ghost (Spirit) functions as the soul of God. (Joh 5:30, Lu 22:42, Joh 14:26, Eph 4:30).

We can now see and comprehend that man is in fact made in the image of God even though each of us look totally different and are even different sexes. God is three in one: Spirit, Flesh, and Soul (Ghost); and man is three in one, spirit, flesh, and soul.
1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
